SMART ASSIST: DIGITAL GUIDANCE SYSTEM FOR BLIND AND VISUALLY IMPAIRED PEOPLE USING PUBLIC TRANSPORT

INDUSTRY: Smart City

The Smart City Factory’s digital guidance system for the blind allows blind and visually impaired people to use local public transport freely and without restriction, even in unfamiliar places. With the help of a special app and edge computing, which is installed in the vehicle, beacons exchange data between the app user and the vehicles using Bluetooth technology. The edge computer processes the data from the sensors on-site in the network and forwards the information to the server securely and in real time using FUSION IoT connectivity in compliance with data protection regulations.

Adapted signals, sounds and announcements in the digital guidance app system for the blind enable functions such as boarding and alighting, recognizing the correct vehicle, and navigation from the user’s boarding and stopping request to the destination. This makes it much easier for blind and visually impaired people to use public transport, as they always know when to get on and off and are also updated during the journey.
